Our Tutors

  • Hi, I'm Michael, founder of Upstream Education. Witnessing students grasp a topic independently and realise their own potential for learning is what fuels my passion for education. It's these "aha moments" that make tutoring so rewarding, and why I created Upstream to empower students to become self-directed learners.

  • In a world relying on screens, in-person teaching or tutoring develops connections and builds confidence in communication when discussing ideas, concepts, and more. Tutoring is for the brave explorers who want to not just learn more, but understand more.


    Alan teaches Creative Communication classes designed to foster creativity and confidence in conversation + interpersonal skills in students primary to high school age.

    Alan has over 20 years experience working with children and young people. He has been twice a judge for NZ Children’s Book Awards, and is the current Te Awhi Rito NZ Reading Ambassador.

  • Hey, I'm Zak! Tutoring is all about witnessing those "lightbulb moments" where a struggling student finally grasps a concept. What really fuels my passion is seeing their enthusiasm for learning ignite. Hearing them tell their parents, "That was so cool!" or "I wish we learned that at school!" fills me with an immense sense of purpose. It reminds me that learning can be exciting and empowering, and that's what I strive to create in every session.

    Chance is studying a BSc in Software Engineering & Mathematics and has 1.5 years of tutoring experience at more than 15 schools through the Pūhoro STEMM academy program
